Bengaluru, (DHNS): Heavy downpour in southern Maharashtra and in the catchment areas of River Krishna and its tributaries has increased inflow in the rivers in Chikkodi taluk, Belagavi district.

Three low-lying bridges were submerged on Wednesday.

The Kallol-Yadur bridge across River Krishna, Karadga-Bhoj bridge across River Doodhganga and Bhojwadi-Kunnar bridge across River Vedganga have been submerged. Residents were forced to use alternative roads.

The Western Ghats region in Maharashtra has been receiving heavy downpour for the past four days that has led to 30,000 cusecs of water being released from Rajapur barrage into River Krishna and 14,000 cusecs being released into River Doodhganga.

Belagavi cuty, Bailahongal town and various villages of neighbouring taluks received rain. The inflow of water from Almatti dam was 44,000 cusecs and outflow was 45,000 cusecs. Hence, there was no fear of floods and people need not panic, said tahsildar C S Kulkarni.

Karwar received heavy rain intermittently on Wednesday.

Rain lashed Kalaburagi city and surrounding areas on Wednesday evening.

Meanwhile, a road adjacent to the bridge-cum-barrage between Kallur (B) village in Jewargi taluk and Chinamalli in Afzalpur taluk in Kalaburagi was washed way following heavy release of water into river Bhima by a dam in Maharashtra, on Tuesday night.

Following copious rainfall in the catchment areas of the river Bhima, the inflow into the Ujani dam in Maharashtra increased and 70,000 cusec of water was released into the river.
