Main accused in Sharath Madiwala murder arrested

Mangaluru, (The Hindu): Dakshina Kannada police on Tuesday arrested the main accused in the murder of RSS activist Sharath Madiwala. With this, the police have arrested 10 persons in connection with the murder.

Superintendent of Police C.H. Sudheer Kumar Reddy gave the name of the main accused as Sharief (20), son of Ismail, a resident of Alady near Sajipamunnoor in Bantwal. He was among two accused of attacking Sharath Madiwala at BC Road on July 4 that resulted in the latter’s death in a hospital in Mangaluru on July 7. Another accused, Kalandar Shafi, is still at large.

The police on Tuesday also arrested Zabbar (29), son of Aboobacker, a resident of Ramakunja of Puttur, in connection with the murder. Zabbar arranged vehicles for those involved in the murder, he said.

Mr. Reddy said that the police produced Zabbar before the jurisdictional magistrate who allowed his police custody for seven days.

Sharief is reportedly associated with the Popular Front of India. Kalandar Shafi is said to have fled abroad.
