Mangaluru (The Hindu): Fifty-two-year old agriculturist and cooperative movement activist Sanjiv Matandur was on Saturday appointed the president of the Dakshina Kannada unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The appointment comes as a part of State-wide appointment of district unit presidents by State president B.S. Yeddyurappa.
Mr. Matandur succeeds K. Pratap Simha Nayak, who had served for two terms of three years each. Having joined the BJP in 1988, Mr. Matandur built the party from the booth-level and still interacts with every household at his booth, recalled the outgoing president.
He had unsuccessfully contested as the party candidate from Puttur constituency in the 2013 Legislative Assembly polls.
A native of Hirebandadi village in Puttur Taluk, Mr. Matandur had been a director of CAMPCO, is the district president of Sahakara Bharati and is the president of Puttur Taluk Krishika Samaja.
A commerce graduate, Mr. Matandur has also been recognised as a progressive farmer for his wide interest in different forms of farming, including areca, rubber, coca, cashew and dairy. He is a founding member of milk cooperative society in Hirebandadi.
