Bengaluru, DHNS: Minister for Health and Family Welfare K R Ramesh Kumar has urged private hospitals to accept the scrapped Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes on humanitarian grounds.

He was speaking at the launch of an awareness programme on importance of handling a patient during emergency and critical situations in the city on Wednesday.

“The (scrapped) notes are being accepted at government hospitals. But private hospitals are refusing them and we have been receiving several complaints in this regard. However, we are helpless and have no powers to take action against them,” he added.

The Reserve Bank of India has issued a circular stating that DCC Banks are not permitted to accept Rs 500 or Rs 1,000 notes. What will someone whose transactions are with co-operative banks or local banks do?" he said.
