Udupi (The Hindu): The Udupi police on Sunday arrested the wife and son of a businessman on the charge of murdering him and destroying evidence.

Additional Superintendent of Police N. Vishnuvardhan told The Hindu that Rajeshwari Shetty (46) and her son, Navaneet (20), had been arrested for the murder of Bhaskar Shetty, who had been missing since July 28. The police had gathered enough circumstantial evidence to prove Rajeshwari’s and Navaneet’s involvement in the murder.

Allegation
Joggu Shetty, a relative of Bhaskar Shetty, had alleged that he might have been murdered by his family members. Mr. Vishnuvardhan said that among the reasons for suspecting the involvement of Rajeshwari and Navaneet in the murder was the role played by Niranjan Bhat, an archak, who is at large now.

Rajeshwari was in regular touch with Bhat, a resident of Nandalike village.

The two accused persons disposed of the body of Bhaskar Shetty in a way that its traces are yet to be found.

Mr. Vishnuvardhan said that forensic experts were being roped in to search for the traces of Bhaskar Shetty’s body.

The search will be carried out at Bhashkar Shetty’s house and also at the temple of Bhat in Nandalike village. Efforts are being made to trace Bhat, he said.
