Monsoon intensifies in some dists, farmers upbeat

Bengaluru, (DHNS): Shivamogga, Thirthahalli, Sagar, Bhadravathi in Shivamogga district received heavy rain intermittently throughout the day.

Water level in the major rivers in Thirthahalli taluk - Tunga, Malathi, Kushavathi - has increased. Agumbe recorded a rainfall of 74.2mm. Sagar taluk received heavy rain and many roads were waterlogged. The wall of a house at Nehrunagar in the town collapsed due to heavy rain. Electricity poles were uprooted in some parts of the taluk. Shikaripur and Sorab received good spell of rain. The water level in Linganamakki dam rose to 1,766.80 feet against the maximum level of 1,819 feet. The inflow was 13, 828 cusecs.

Heavy showers lashed Belagavi city and surrounding villages, while overcast conditions prevailed in most parts of the district with occasional spells of drizzle. Khanapur town received occasional mild showers and drizzle. Copious rains lashing the southern parts of Maharashtra increased the inflow into River Krishna, with the neighbouring state discharging 30,000 cusecs water into the Rajapur barrage.

The catchment areas of River Krishna and its tributaries have been receiving heavy rain in Maharashtra for the last few days. Krishna flows through Chikkodi, Athani and Raibag taluks in the district.

Showers lashed Bidar, beginning 5 pm on Monday. It continued for the entire night at regular intervals. It intensified in the early hours of Tuesday and continued for the whole day. The continuous downpour threw life out of gear in the city. Routine vehicular traffic was missing in the busy hours. Intermittent heavy rain lashed Dharwad city throughout the day, while Hubballi city also experienced several rounds of moderate rainfall on Tuesday. As rainwater started flowing on the roads, vehicle users had a tough time.

Moderate rain lashed several places in Gadag district. However, the rainfall is much lower than normal in the district, , much to the chagrin of farmers who have undertaken sowing. Showers were experienced in Hosapete city and surrounding areas in Ballari district. It rained between 3 pm and 5 pm in the city. Drizzling was reported from across Chitradurga district. Heavy rain was reported for around 15 minutes in the city in the afternoon.

Rains lashed several parts of Uttara Kannada district, including Yellapur and Sirsi. A huge tree was uprooted at Binaga on National Highway-66, throwing traffic out of gear. The tree was cleared by fire personnel and Hescom officials.

Mysuru city and surrounding areas remained cloudy throughout Tuesday with slight drizzling, a couple of times. Hampapura hobli in HD Kote taluk of the district received good spell of rain. Mandya, Hassan and Chamarajanagar too remained cloudy throughout the day, with sudden light showers.

Rain continued to lash Dakshina Kannada district. Showers brought cheer to farmers who are getting ready to transplant paddy seedlings in Mudigere. Balooru, Banakal, Gonibeedu hobli of Chikkamagaluru district, Chikkamagaluru city. Kodagu district has been receiving bountiful rain since Monday night. Agriculture activities have intensified. Udupi district received rainfall of 42.8 mm in the last 24 hours.
