Mangaluru (The Hindu): Ravish plans to become a cardiologist, while Vaishnavi hopes to become a neurosurgeon

They are Science students, but it is the change in the marks they scored in English after re-evaluation that has taken them to the top.

The new top rankers in the Science stream of the II Pre-University Course — Ravish Suresh Bannihatti of Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala, Mysuru, and Vaishnavi Ballal from Expert PU College, Mangaluru — had applied for re-evaluation in English.

While Ravish secured eight additional marks, which took his total up to 597 out of 600, Vaishnavi bagged six additional marks that increased her total to 596.

Earlier, Rakshitha T. of V.V.S. Sardar Patel PU College, Bengaluru, was the topper with 596 and P. Gowthami of MES College, Bengaluru, was in second place with 595.

Ravish secured 100 each in Sanskrit, physics, mathematics and biology, 99 in chemistry, and 98 in English. He is the son of B.P. Suresh, Assistant Director, Karnataka Milk Federation, Bengaluru, and Nalini, a doctor. He has made up his mind to pursue medical course and become a cardiologist.

‘Not ecstatic’

Vaishnavi had scored a centum in five subjects and 90 in English. With six more marks in English after re-evaluation, she said it was her teachers who pushed her to apply for re-evaluation. “Though I am happy with the six additional marks, I am not ecstatic,” she said, and added that she hopes to become a neurosurgeon like her father, Rajesh Ballal.

With a ranking of 192 in the entrance examination of the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, she hopes to get a seat in the premier institution. “My next preference will be seat in other premier institutions for which I am writing the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) phase 2,” she said.
