New building at Lady Goschen to be ready by November-end

Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada B. Ramanath Rai said here on Friday that the new building of the Government Lady Goschen Hospital would be put to use by November-end.

At a meeting to review the progress of the construction of the building, superintendent of the hospital, Savitha, said that Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. would provide Rs. 21.7 crore for the new building. Bids had been invited for works to the tune of Rs. 18.4 crore now. The balance amount would also be used for the building works. But another Rs. 10 crore was required to complete the construction, she said.

Additional fund

The additional fund was required for electrical works, air-conditioning, to install an elevator and a diesel generator, for erecting electrical transformer, to purchase furniture and medical equipment, according to a release from the Department of Information.

Mr. Rai said that he would take up the matter with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and try to get the additional fund required. Till then, the Minister said, works should not stop. He instructed to draw Rs. 8.93 crore from the users’ fund of the Government Wenlock Hospital and deposit it with Arogya Raksha Samiti and continue the works by calling bids, the release added.
