Mangaluru (The Hindu): KFDC and www.buyfish.in have joined hands to deliver products. Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation (KFDC) and www.buyfish.in, a unit of Bengaluru-based Sashimi Foods Private Ltd., have joined hands to deliver hygienic fish on customers’ doorsteps.

Booking and delivery will be done by www.buyfish.in, and it would source fish from KFDC for supplies in Mangaluru, said V.K. Shetty, Managing Director, KFDC.

Kedarnath Reddy, founder and director of the company, said the service was operational in Bengaluru. Mumbai is slated to the third city, and it will go pan-India next year.

“We are supplying fish in reusable bio-pack so that customers can use the boxes for themselves,” he said.

Mr. Reddy said customers have online payment as well as cash-on-delivery options.

Mr. Shetty said the KFDC would start fish canteen on wheels “Mobile Matsa Darshini” in the city next week. It will serve fish food and value-added fish food. The KFDC has pressed into served a vehicle costing Rs. 12 lakh for the purpose. It will have refrigeration facility and all that is required for cooking fish food.

In addition, Mr. Shetty said the corporation will launch a separate vehicle for selling fish on wheels. It would have all facilities to sell quality and hygienic fish.

Mr. Shetty said the corporation would open 10 hygienic fish canteens in 10 districts in North Karnataka within the next two years.

Earlier, A B Ibrahim, Deputy Commissioner inaugurated a three-day ‘Matsaya Mela’ at TMA Pai International Convention Centre here. He said fishing industry had immense potential to explore. All stakeholders in the coastal belt in the State should strive to promote Mangaluru as the fish capital of the country.
