Mangaluru, (DHNS): A 45-year-old man was hacked to death by three people when he was sleeping on the terrace of his house at Bokkapattana in Mangaluru on Monday.

According to DCP (Law and Order) Hanumantharaya, the deceased is Shivaraj (45), brother of Bharathesh, a rowdy-sheeter. It is suspected that an earlier quarrel with a person from the same locality could have led to the murder.

"It is ascertained that the killing is more due to a local dispute and differences with hostile locality members," said the DCP.

The police have arrested Sunil Poojary (32), Dheeraj (25) and Mallesha (23), all residents of Tannirbavi, for the murder.

In the last 29 days, Mangaluru has witnessed five murders. On December 24, a rowdy- sheeter Melrick D'Souza was hacked to death by a gang at Gorigudda, just two days after his release from jail.

On January 3, BJP worker Deepak Rao was murdered by four persons at Katipalla in Surathkal.

In retaliation to Rao's murder, four persons had stabbed Abdul Basheer at Kottara Chowki the same night. Basheer succumed to his injuries on January 7.

On January 13, the notorious "Ullal Target Group" leader Ilyas was stabbed to death at his house in Jeppu Kutpady in Mangaluru, three days after his release from the jail.
