Police on the lookout for gang that robbed businessman

Udupi (The Hindu): The city and the district police are jointly searching for a vehicle in which a gang of five men fled after robbing a businessman of Rs. 4.5 lakh.

According to Vital police, Subash Nayak was returning in his car to his house with the day’s earning.

Five men came in a vehicle and blocked his way. The robbers fired in air using a pistol and then snatched the bag containing cash. The robbers then left the scene around 9 p.m.

The police said a team of Vitla police was chasing the vehicle. Information has been passed on to the city police to keep a watch on the vehicle used by the robbers. “We hope to catch them in the next few hours,” said Superintendent of Police Sharanappa S.D.

Valuables

Thieves broke into a clinic near City Bus Stand here and made good with Rs. 1.2 lakh in cash.

According to the police, thieves broke into the Gayatri Clinic in Brindavan Lodge building between 6.30 p.m. on October 3 and 9.30 a.m. on October 5 and took away the cash. The thieve locked the shutters with a new lock. A case has been registered at the Udupi Town Police Station.

Burglary

Thieves broke into a house and took away gold and silver ornaments at Parkala coming under the Manipal police station limits here on Monday.

According to the poice, thieves broke into the house of M. Dinesh Kudva at Jyoti Nagar in Parkala between 10 a.m. and 1.15 p.m. and decamped with gold and silver ornaments including a ‘mangalsutra,’ a pearl necklace, a gold bangle and a silver bracelet. The value of these items taken together had been estimated at Rs. 2.5 lakh.
