Polling peaceful in Byndoor Assembly constituency

Byndoor : (DHNS): The Byndoor constituency registered 59.05 % polling. A total of 58,272 male voters and 72,302 female voters have exercised their franchise.

Until 1 pm, the polling recorded was 37.77 %, while at 3 pm the polling was 45.35%.

The polling booth at Zilla Panchayat higher primary school in Maoist-affected Thombattu area had recorded just 28.7 %(278 out of total 966 voters cast their vote) polling at 10:40 am.

While the polling booth at government higher primary school in Macchattu reported just 28% polling at 11 am. Of the total 1,263 voters, only 364 had cast their votes.

Voter Nalina Kottari from Chakra Maidan told media persons that the voters at Sulugodu (Hallihole GP) wanted to boycott the elections because they wanted the village to be included under Kundapur taluk as against the present inclusion under Byndoor taluk (new).

She added that public finds it hard to travel for official purposes to Byndoor as it was 65 km to 70 km away from Sulugodu when compared to Kundapur, which was 40 km way. “There are no buses to Byndoor from the village and the roads to are in pathetic condition.”

However, other village Kamalasheele, which is also part of the Hallihole gram panchayat is included in Kundapur taluk.

The hyper-sensitive booth at Irige government higher primary school recorded 50.28 percent at 12:40 pm.

The total number of voters in Byndoor Assembly constituency is 2,21,972, of which 1,07,922 are males and 1,14,049 are females.

As many as 700 police and two para military forces which included Sashastra Seema Bal were deployed for security.

There were 95 sensitive, 59 hyper sensitive and 95 normal polling booths.
