Rahul Gandhi to visit on March 20

Mangaluru, (The HIndu): Congress president Rahul Gandhi will tour Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on March 20 to participate in ‘Janashirvada Yatre’ of the party. It will end with a public meeting at Nehru Maidan in Mangaluru in the evening.

After arriving in Mangaluru, he will fly by helicopter to Kaup in Udupi district to attend a programme by the Congress Seva Dal. The Yatre will start from Kaup, according to AICC secretary P.C. Vishnunadan, who is in charge of the party’s Mysuru division.

On the way to Mangaluru, Mr. Gandhi will address a public meeting at Padubidri and will hold a road show from Mulki to Surathkal. There will be another road show from Ambedkar Circle to Nehru Maidan, where he will address another public meeting at 5.30 p.m.

The tour assumes significance as it is Mr. Gandhi’s first visit to the region after taking over the top party post, district in-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai said.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Karnataka Congress president G. Parameshwara, AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal, and senior leaders M. Mallikarjuna Kharge, M. Veerappa Moily and others will attend the programmes.

Shelving the proposed tour of Uttara Kannada district, Mr. Gandhi will undertake the Janashirvada Yatre in Chikkamagaluru and Hassan districts on March 21. He will start his day by visiting the Sharada Peetha at Sringeri, followed by a public meeting at Chikkamagaluru, Mr. Vishnunadan said.
