Bengaluru, (DHNS): ter a brief lull, monsoon resumed with full vigour in parts of coastal districts and Malnad on Saturday. Bhatkal, Honnavar and Kumta taluks received heavy showers while Karwar, Ankola and Siddapur taluks experienced drizzle.

The district has received 128.1 mm of rain in 24 hours (ending at 8.30 am on Saturday). Bhatkal recorded a maximum of 59.2 mm.

Dakshina Kannada district received a good spell of rainfall on Friday night and Saturday morning. The sky remained overcast throughout the day. In the last 24 hours (ending 8 am on Saturday), the district received an average of 38.7 mm rainfall. Belthangady received highest of 47.4 mm followed by Puttur 43 mm and Mangaluru 36.5 mm rainfall.

Heavy rain lashed Kodagu on Saturday. Madikeri, Napoklu, Talacauvery and Bhagamandala received rain throughout the day. In the last 24 hours, Madikeri received 68.2 mm rainfall, Napoklu 42.6 mm, Sampaje 55.2 mm and Bhagamandala 47.2 mm rainfall.

Shivamogga district experienced moderate to heavy rain on Saturday. Hosanagar, Thirthahalli received incessant rain. The paddy fields at Huncha, Nagara, Chakranagar-Halasinahalli were inundated due to copious rain. The rain that started around 2 pm lashed Thirthahalli for two hours. Many roads in the town were waterlogged. Yaduru in Hosanagar taluk recorded 156 mm, followed by Hulikal 119 mm, Mani 96 mm and Mastikatte 88 mm. The inflow into Varahi, Chakra and Sawehaklu dams has increased as catchment area received good spells of rain. Shivamogga, Bhadravathi and Sagar received moderate rain.

Heavy showers, accompanied by strong winds, pounded Gadag town and parts of the district for an hour on Saturday evening. Showers had rendered Gadag town a slush field. The busy Malshetti Circle near old bus stand and several major roads were inundated with rainwater, causing hardships to the motorists. Flooding was reported at several low-lying areas including S M Krishna Nagar, Vivekananda Layout, Porters’ Colony, Javali Galli, Panchakshari Nagar, Betageri among others.

Sewage water entered roads at Hombal Naka, Gangapurpet and the road in front of Venkatesh cinema hall after the drains overflowed following copious rain. The district has received a total of 189.02 mm rain in the last one week.

Kalaburagi city and Tumakuru received moderate showers for half-an-hour on Saturday.
