Mandya (DHNS): Former MP and All India Congress Committee (AICC) social media head Ramya's mother Ranjitha has alleged that the Congress party has neglected her and expressed her intention of entering the fray from Mandya Assembly constituency as an independent candidate.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Ranjitha said she had taken a decision to contest independently as the senior leaders of the party had failed to give her any responsibility.

She said, "I have been working for the Congress for the past 28 years and had requested the leaders to recognise my services and give me a small post in the party. But my request has not been considered. Though our party is in power, I was not given any responsibility. The leaders have been giving me assurances for years. How many years can I wait? Hence, I have decided to contest as an independent in the elections. I will announce my final decision soon," she said.

When contacted, Congress district women's unit president Anjana Srikanth said, except for participating in the campaign in favour of her daughter Ramya, during the Lok Sabha elections, Ranjitha has not been involved in any party activity. "We are not aware of the fact that Ranjitha was seeking a party post. I will speak to her in this regard", she said.

Ranjitha is staying in Bengaluru after Ramya was given a post in the AICC and was called to Delh
