Manipal (The Hindu): The three-day Namma Angadi, exhibition and sale of handicrafts, handloom and eco-friendly products, began on the premises of the School of Communication, a constituent of Manipal University, here on Friday.

Items, including earthen pots, bell metal products, clay jewellery, lamps, incense stands, masks and vases made of terracotta, decorative items made of eco-friendly materials, and furniture were exhibited.

Cotton garments for men, women and children, palm jaggery, pure wild honey, lavancha products, kokum nectar squash, hot sweet lemon pickle, hot sweet citron pickle, baskets and trays made out of bamboo, were on display. The items were displayed in the open air auditorium and five classrooms of the School of Communication. All the proceeds from the sale will go directly to train children in vocational arts at Namma Bhoomi centre at Kanyana in Kundapur taluk.

Many people visited the exhibition. Revathi, who works as a doctor in Manipal said that she had been visiting the annual ‘Namma Angadi’ exhibition for the last few years. “I like to purchase the beautifully carved stone and other eco-friendly items. I come in the morning to do ‘window shopping’ just to see the items. Then I come again in the evening to purchase the items,” she said. Vijetha, another physician, said that she was visiting the exhibition for the last four years. “ I have found the quality of products I have purchased during my previous visits to be good,” she said.
