Second batch of relief material sent to Madikeri

Mangaluru, (The Hindu): The second consignment of relief materials to Kodagu were sent by the Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority on Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil S. said the consignment had materials sought by Kodagu district administration.

“We are in constant touch with our counterparts working in Kodagu and they had given us the list of materials they wanted,” he said.

The authority has been stocking the relief materials at the auditorium of the Karnataka Polytechnic at Kadri Hills.

Mangaluru Taluk probationary tahsildar Santosh was leading a team of 25 personnel from the Revenue Department and staff of the Karnataka Polytechinic managing the stock of material coming to the auditorium.

The materials sent on Saturday included 3,225 kg of rice, 50 kg sugar, three boxes of wheat, one box of salt, two boxes of cooking oil and one box of sambar powder.

Among other materials that were sent included 90 boxes of biscuits; 10 boxes of water; four boxes each of medicines and bedsheets; three boxes each of candles, baby diaper, toothpaste and soaps; two boxes each of gum boots, torch lights, mosquito repellents and books; one box each of clothes for men and women, washing soaps, hair oil, baby food, ORS; 40 plates and utensils; 20 buckets; 15 mugs; 30 mattress; 66 towels; and 10 umbrellas.

Minister for Housing and Urban Development U.T. Khader flagged off the movement of the two vehicles.

As many as 25 families have moved to their houses in Deverakolli. A total of 86 families have moved from the three relief centres to their houses in different villages in Madikeri district after certification by district administration about the safety of the houses.

Each family leaving the relief centre was being given 25 kg rice, few kgs of daal and Rs 3,800, he said.

The Navodaya Gram Vikas Charitable Trust will donate Rs 10 lakh each to the relief fund of Karnataka and Kerala Chief Ministers respectively. The Karnataka State Cooperative Marketing Federation will donate Rs. 50 lakh to Karnataka Chief Minister Calamity Relief Fund. Yaksha Druva Patla Foundation donated Rs 2 lakh to the Fund.
