Mangaluru (The Hindu): Have received representations from public against withdrawal of cases against Muthalik: Ibrahim

Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner A.M. Ibrahim, in his letter to the Home Department, said: “It is often reported that in all taluks of Dakshina Kannada, immoral policing and enforcement of law in the name of morality and ethics by vigilantes are very common.”

The letter was in response to reports that the government was planning to drop 13 cases against Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Muthalik.

Mr. Ibrahim said that the activities of Mr. Muthalik and his outfit were major reasons for law and order problems in Dakshina Kannada. “He visited the district on December 13, 2015 and made a fiery speech. Due to the enormous police bandobast, no untoward incident took place.”

The letter said that the Superintendent of Police of Dakshina Kannada, in a letter on December 12, had requested to issue prohibitory orders banning Mr. Muthalik from entering the district for a programme this month. The district administration contemplated on preventing his entry into the district.

It said that the district administration is making “sincere efforts to book the culprit in all these mischievous activities.” The letter said that a number of representations have been received from public and NGOs against the withdrawal of cases.
