Bengaluru, DHNS: The State government may contemplate introducing the odd-even vehicle scheme after examining its success in Delhi.

Home Minister G Parameshwara expressed views on the odd-even scheme during his visit to the police commissioner’s office on the concluding day of the crime prevention month.

He said the IT city’s reputation has taken a beating at the global level because of the twin issues of traffic and garbage.

“Our City is also facing serious traffic problem and we will consider implement the odd-even scheme after studying the success of the formula in Delhi. The traffic police are striving hard to decongest the traffic with few short-term plans. Schemes like car-pooling, encouraging the use of public transportation are also being implemented,” he said.

Expressing concern over the foreign investors’ reservations about Bengaluru, Parameshwara said: “They think that they will have to spend more time on the roads due to bad traffic. Recently, the New York Times mentioned that it is no longer an IT but a garbage city. This has dented the reputation of the City. The police will have an important role in upholding the true spirit of the City. Though the City has less number of crime against women, it is the duty of the police to ensure that it is safe for women.”
