Teacher arrested on rape charge

Mangaluru (The Hindu):A 34-year-old teacher from a government school in Deralakatte here has been arrested for allegedly raping a 24-year-old teacher from a government school in Bantwal after promising her that he would marry her.

According to Konaje police, the accused, 34-year-old Narasimha Murthy, a native of Mandya, was posted to Netaji Subashchandra Primary School in Deralakatte a few days ago.

He was staying in a room in Deralakatte. He was in touch since last two years with the 24-year-old teacher, also from Mandya, who was recently posted to a school in Bantwal taluk.

Complaint

In a complaint filed on Monday, the 24-year-old woman said that Narasimha Murthy asked her to come to his room on June 2 saying that he will marry her.

She alleged that Narasimha Murthy sexually abused her and then refused to marry her.

He allegedly threatened of releasing her photographs in the social media if she approached the police. He had also taken her signatures on some documents and cheques, she alleged.

Based on her complaint, the Konaje police arrested Narasimha Murthy on Tuesday. He was later remanded by a Magistrate to the Mangaluru District Prison. The police said that the woman will record her statement before the Magistrate in the next few days.
