UPSC topper to offer first salary to Alva’s Free Education Scheme

Mangaluru (The Hindu): K.R. Nandini, topper in the Union Public Service Civil Services examination 2016, on Thursday announced that she will offer her first salary to Alva’s Education Foundation’s free education scheme.

She made this statement while visiting her alma mater along with members of her family, said a release from Alva’s.

Besides offering her first salary to the free education scheme, she would continue to help students in pursuing education, she said.

She also met foundation chairman M. Mohan Alva

Ms. Nandini was the beneficiary of Alva’s Free Education Scheme.

Mr. Alva has announced a purse of ? 1 lakh on her achievement.

Studying eight hours a day, Ms. Nandini aimed at becoming one among the top 50 candidates in the Civil Services exams, she said. Her association with Kannada literature helped a lot in achieving the goal, she said.

The topper said that it is a myth that one would have to spend a lot to pursue a career in Civil Services. If one has a clear goal and perfection in studies, one could become a Civil servant, Ms. Nandini said. She could correct her mistakes in the exams as she had appeared for the same twice earlier.

Her mother, Vimalamma, father K.V. Ramesh, Alva’s trustee Vivek Alva and others were present.
