Udupi (The Hindu): The Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) has extended the last date for the payment of property taxes on all buildings and non-agriculture land for 2016-17 till June 30.

In a press release issued here, the CMC said that property owners/users of building and non-agriculture land should pay the tax by this month-end without fine. Those who fail, will have to pay a fine of 2 per cent every month from July.

Those who are yet to pay property tax for the last fiscal 2015-16 should pay their taxes immediately with the prescribed fine and also the tax for the present fiscal 2016-17 without fine by this month end, the release added. D. Manjunathaiah, CMC Commissioner, said here that nearly 40 per cent of tax payers had paid their taxes. Normally by the end of June, about 65 per cent of tax payers paid the taxes.

Most of those who delayed their payments were those owners who were staying in big cities such as Mumbai or those who were working in West Asia. The CMC had a good track-record in collection of taxes and tax collection was 95 per cent or above. There were 52,420 properties within the CMC limits, he said.
