Udupi team wins Prajavani Quiz contest

Bengaluru, (DHNS): The team from Vidyodaya Public School, Udupi, emerged winners of the Prajavani Quiz Championship 2018, the finals of which were held at the Jnanajyothi auditorium on the Central College campus here on Wednesday.

The second place was bagged by Nittur Central School from Ranebennur, Haveri, and the team from Maharshi Public School, Mysuru, came third. After written tests at the school-level, regional rounds were held in Mysuru, Hassan, Mangaluru, Dharwad, Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Davangere, Tumakuru and Bengaluru. The 10 teams then competed in the final round on Wednesday.

Class 9 students Dheerendra Bhandary and Chandan Prakash of the winning team in the fourth edition of the quiz contest quickly answered challenging questions and garnering 90 points. The team from Nittur Central School - class 9 student Isha and class 10 student K Keertiraj - came second with 70 points. Vasishta N Swamy and Abhay N of Maharshi Public School, Mysuru, came third. Consolation prizes were given to Sainik School, Vijayapura, who came fourth and Chandrakant Patil School, Kalaburagi, fifth. The quiz was co-presented by Deeksha and conducted by Raghav Chakravarthy and Sarthak Khuntia of Walnut Knowledge Solutions. The winners were presented a prize money of Rs 50,000 for the first place, Rs 30,000 for second place and Rs 10,000 for third place. The prizes were given away by paralympian swimmer Niranjan Mukundan, film director Simple Suni and Chandrashekar from Deeksha.

Other sponsors of the competition were Sunpure, Syndicate Bank and Glucovita Bolts.

Ranju Bopanna, a teacher at NPS Indiranagar, said, "This is a very good platform to identify talent in students. Our students prepared very well for the competition." "Reading newspapers is helpful when taking part in such quizzes. This habit has been given up, but this event helps revive it," said Major Prakash, a parent.

Srinivas, class 8 student, GHS Sarakki, said, "I have learnt a lot about current affairs and answering questions by comparing pictures after taking part in this quiz. I want to learn more about the questions I found difficult today."
