Mandya (The Hindu): To bring pressure on the State and Union governments to complete the Kalasa-Banduri Nala drinking water project, the Karnataka Janapara Vedike launched a 1,600-km padayatra from Mandya to Mantralaya on Thursday.

G. Made Gowda, former MP, flagged off the padayatra and urged the elected representatives to put pressure on the Union government to complete the project.

Vedike president Ramesh Gowda urged the State government to remove senior advocate Fali S. Nariman as he has been “failing to effectively handle” the Cauvery and Mahadayi issues.

The vedike leaders have urged the State government to withdraw cases registered against farmers who protested over the Cauvery, Mahadayi and other issues.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi should convene a meeting of Karnataka and Goa Chief Ministers to solve the long-pending dispute through dialogue, they said.
