Mangaluru, (The Hindu): The stretch between Bunts Hostel Circle and Kadri Main Road was cleaned by volunteers on the 40th week of the Mangaluru Swachhata Abhiyan of Ramakrishna Mission on Sunday.

While one group of volunteers cleaned the left side of the road, another handled the right side. Students of St. Aloysius Management College cleaned the dividers.

The garbage piled up at the bus shelter opposite to an ice cream shop in Kadri was cleared and the shelter given a fresh coat of paint. The volunteers erected a board at the bus stop to create awareness about the cleanliness campaign. A group of 20 volunteers cleared weeds and overgrown grass from the small garden behind the shelter.

Another group removed around 1,000 flex banners in A.B. Shetty Circle, Clock Tower, Hampankatta, Balmatta, Karangalpady, PVS Circle, and Kadri Main Road. A group beautified a place in Attavar, where garbage was being dumped, by placing flower pots.

The drive on Sunday was launched by Chandrakant Kulkarni of Pune, a retired teacher who has donated one-third of his pension to the Swachh Bharat fund. He commended the effort of Ramakrishna Mission in sustaining the cleanliness drive in Mangaluru.
