Mysuru: After a gap of 36 years, the Mysuru Palace was decorated with ‘chappara’ (weaved green coconut fronds and mango leaves) symbolically marking the beginning of actual wedding rituals of Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar with Trishika Kumari here on Saturday. The wedding will be held on Monday.

The rituals began with Yaduveer taking holy bath (oil bath) at Vani Vilas ‘devara mane’ at 4 am.

Later, Yaduveer offered prayers at Atmavilasa Ganapathi temple within the palace. The temple has its own significance as it is said that Lord Ganesha’s idol, made out of soil at the sanctum sanctorum, was one of the few things that remained intact without any damage after the accidental fire destroyed the old palace in 1897.

Yaduveer also performed Ganapathi, Chamundeshwari pujas and tied ‘mudipu’ (knot) at Chamundi Thotti as per the custom. He offered puja to the ‘chappara’ at ‘Aane Dwara’ in the palace at 5.30 am.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, sources from Parakala Mutt said, Yaduveer performed ‘pada puja’ to Abhinava Vageesha Brahmatantra Swatantra Parakala Swami of the Mutt at Kannadi Thotti inside the palace at 8 am. Pramodadevi Wadiyar, wife of the late scion of the royal family Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, Harshwardhan Singh of?Dungurpur and his wife Maheshree Kumari (parents of Trishika), were also present during the ritual. Nearly 100 people, members of the royal family (including sisters of Srikantadatta), took part in the rituals.

The palace witnessed rituals throughout the day like stambha muhurta and the engagement ceremony.

‘Edu and Shakuna shastra’ at Kannadi Thotti, a ritual performed by the family of the groom to the bride took place at the kalyan mantap. Other formalities included uddu kallu shastra and godi kallu shastra, pada puja to Pramodadevi and others. Various rituals were also held in the evening by the members of the royal family.

Adoption case

While the erstwhile royal family of Mysuru is in a festive mood ahead of Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar’s wedding, a case relating to his adoption came up before a court on Saturday.

Ajay?Govind, the advocate appearing for Chaduranga Kantharaja Urs, nephew of Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar said that the court had rejected a petition by Pramoda Devi, wife of Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, urging the court to quash Kantharaja Urs’ complaint.

However, the palace authorities claimed that the court has rejected only the interim application and not the petition. Palace secretary Lakshminarayan told Deccan Herald, “The court has rejected the interim application and posted the hearing for next month.” The Palace authorities will consult legal experts in connection with this, he added.

Kantharaja Urs, who had contended clear violation of the adoption procedure, had filed a petition in the court of Additional Principal Civil Magistrate (senior grade) in connection with the adoption of Yaduveer , after Srikantadatta Wadiyar’s death of on December 10, 2013.
