WhatsApp group administrators held

Murdeshwar, (The Hindu) : The Murdeshwar police in Uttara Kannada district have arrested two persons, said to be administrators of a WhatsApp group, on the charge of facilitating circulation of morphed, obscene images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The arrests were made three days ago on a complaint from the public that the obscene images of the Prime Minister were being circulated in “Balse Friends” WhatsApp group.

The police gave the names of the accused as Krishna Naik and Lakshman Naik, residents of Doddabalse near Murdeshwar. Lakshman is out on bail, Murdeshwar Police Sub-Inspector Prakash Bhant told The Hindu. Investigating Officer and Bhatkal Circle Inspector of Police Suresh G. Nayak said that the accused have been booked under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act. It deals with punishment for publishing in electronic form any material that can degrade any person.
