Kuwait : ICS presents “Jashn e Ghalib”- A tribute to Tom Alter ….

Pioneer of quality entertainment & producer of regular hit shows, Indian Cultural Society proudly presents “Jashn e Ghalib” on Friday 10th November at 6.30 pm in form of comedy play & poetry.

Legends from the literature world Prof. Waseem Barelvi (Chief Guest) & Dr. Rahat Indori (Guest of Honor) will bless the evening with their globally acclaimed poetry & couplets.

India’s longest running comedy play “Mirza Ghalib in New Delhi” will be main attraction of the event.

Tom Alter was known for his versatile play act including role of Mirza Ghalib. ICS pays homage to the brilliant actor.

Urdu has a magical charm to it that no other language offers. And people are drawn to this poetic language for its aesthetic sensibilities and unparalleled sophistication. Among the great Urdu poets, we have invited Prof. Waseem Barelvi & Dr. Rahat Indori is renowned name.

 


Prof. Waseem Barelvi: Prof. Waseem Barelvi was born in Bareilly U.P. He completed his M.A. in Urdu literature from Agra University & started his career as a Professor and later became an Associate Professor, Head of Urdu Dept. Bareilly College. He had also served as Vice Chairman, National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language, Ministry of Human Resource Development, (Department of Higher Education), and Govt. of India. He is known for his exemplary work on Urdu poetry. Several National and International award winner Waseem Barelvi's poetries have been published in scores of literary magazines in India, Pakistan and some other countries. His Ghazals and other compositions have been sung by prominent singers from Indian Film Industry including legendry singer Lata Mangeshkar, Mohinder Kapoor, Jagjeet Singh, and Pankaj Udhas. He has published few collections of poetry in Urdu & Hindi. Some of his important books are Tabassum-e-Gham (Urdu), Aansu Mere Daman Tera (Hindi), Mizaj (Urdu), Aankh Aansu Hui (Urdu)) , Mera kya (Urdu & Hindi) , Aankhon Aankhon Rahe (Urdu) , Mausam Andar Bahar Ke (Urdu) etc.

His poetry is replete with love and passion and makes one come to terms with the estrangement and loneliness that comes with heartbreak. Waseem Barelvi has beautifully talked about the pain of love….

“Sirf Tera Naam Lekar Rah Gaya,
Aaj Deewana Bahut Kuchh Kah Gaya,
Kya Meri Taqdeer Mein Manzil Nahi?
Faasla Kyun Muskura Kar Rah Gaya”.

 

Dr. Rahat Indori:
Dr. Rahat Indori's career graph has the typical tough-times-to-tinsel-town element to it. A Painter turned Professor, Poet and then Hindi film Lyricist. Rahat was a Pedagogist of Urdu literature in Indore University before his flair was spotted by Mumbai's film industry and the listeners of Urdu poetry across the World. A thorough gentleman, with philosophic inclinations, Rahat Indori is known for his poetic brilliance and absolute commitment to work. His writing gives a refreshing perspective to our muddled lives and inspires us to stay put in the face of despair.

Dr. Rahat Indori has penned some of the most melodious songs for films…Begum Jaan (Murshida Murshida), Jurm (Meri chahaton ka samandar/ Dil Dil), Chehraa (Kabhi khamosh baithogi), Murder ( Dil ko hazar bar roka), Meenaxi ( Yeh rishta kya kehlaata hai), Munna Bhai MBBS (M bole to / Dekh le / Chann Chann), Kareeb (Chura lo na dil mera / Chori chori jab nazrein mili), Mission Kashmir (Bumbro -bumbro / Dhuan dhuan/ Maaf bhi kar do yaaro ) and similarly many more films like, Yarana, Gundaraj , Sir, Janam, Main Khiladi Tu Anadi, Naajayz, Ram Shastra, Takkar, Darar, Ghatak, Beqabu, Ishq, Tamanna, Kareeb, Aarzoo, Prem Aggan etc.

Ghalib in New Delhi is a rib-tickling political satire revolving around the great Urdu poet’s comeback to his beloved city. Ghalib in New Delhi is a comedy play that deals with the birth of Mirza Ghalib in 21st century in New Delhi and the trials, travails and tribulations that he faces in the new age. His journey starts from his birth at ISBT which moves towards staying in a servant quarter of Mrs. Chaddha at Patpad Ganj with Jai Hind, a Bihari boy.
