Brazil residents want 5.2 mn Olympic tickets

Published On : 08 May 2015

Rio de Janeiro, May 8 (IANS) : Brazilian residents have applied for 5.2 million tickets during the first sales phase, organisers said.

The deadline for the first instalment of sale of tickets ended on Wednesday with volleyball proving the most popular sport, according to Rio2016.com. Football was the next most sought-after followed by basketball, reports Xinhua.

A draw will take place for events where demand exceeds supply with results to be announced in June. A second batch of tickets, for which priority will be given to those who were unsuccessful in the first phase, will go on sale in July. A final first-come first-served online sales phase will begin in October.

Non-Brazilian residents will be able to apply via authorised resellers in their territory. About 7.5 million tickets will be put on sale for the first Olympics in South America, to be held from August 5 to 21 next year.
