Published On : 08 Feb 2016

Kigali (Rwanda), Feb 8: Kenya will host the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), a top official of the continent's football governing body said.

Almamy Kabele Camara, Confederation of African Football's second vice-president said here on Sunday that the east African country should start preparations to host the event, reports Xinhua.

"We have seen Rwanda host the event so well this year and they have scored so highly and get grade A for their level of organisation. We call upon Kenya to also start working hard to improve infrastructure which will contribute to a successful competition in 2018," he said.

It will be the third time CHAN returns to the Council of East and Central African Associations region after Sudan also hosted in 2011.

Camara said Kenya was confirmed last year following receipt of necessary government guarantees and complete dossier including the required infrastructure and security.

Speaking about the 2016 CHAN, Camara said the tournament was superb both on-and-off the pitch as the hosts managed to sell 90 percent of the tickets. According to organisers, Rwanda spent close to $23 million to host the tournament.
