New Delhi, Jun 18 (PTI) Indian Olympic medallist boxer MC Mary Kom will be the chief guest for the Yoga event, which is being organised by Indian Consulate in Dubai, on the occasion of first ever International Yoga day on June 21.

Five-time World Boxing Champion Mary Kom will join more than 15,000 United Arab Emirates participants and more than 100 nationalities during this event, to be held at Al Wasl Football Club, Dubai.

The mega event will see participation from 72 schools, 88 cultural organisations, 50 big corporate companies and different embassies/consulates.

Mary Kom, who will depart for Dubai on June 20, said, "I am really excited to be part of the yoga gathering in Dubai on the occasion of International Yoga Day and I would like to thank Indian Consulate in Dubai for giving me this opportunity.

"I practice yoga from the past few years, it's very natural and has helped me a lot in keeping myself fit. Yoga also works on strength, flexibility, balance, agility, endurance, core and overall strength, among other things. I want everyone to be a part of the International Yoga Day and start performing Yoga in your routine life.

"At the end, I congratulate our Honorable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi for his initiative of taking Yoga to the international community," the London Olympic bronze medallist said.

The sessions will be led by Indian yoga guru A G Mohan, who is also an author and co-founder of Svastha Yoga and Ayurveda in India.
