New Delhi: Virat Kohli on Friday became the first Indian captain to hit a double hundred in away Tests as visitors took complete control over West Indies on Day 2 of first match at Antigua.

Kohli, 27, reached the milestone with a single off the first ball of 119th over, bowled by Roston Chase, just before the lunch. The skipper took 281 balls, and hit 24 fours.

This is also Delhi batsman's first ever double ton in first-class cricket.

Mohammad Azharuddin's 192 against New Zealand in Auckland in 1990 was the previous highest score from an Indian captain in away Test.

Batting great Sachin Tendulkar scored 168 against South Africa in Cape Town in 1997.

But the highest score by an Indian captain in Test is under Mahendra Singh Dhoni's name, for his 224 against visiting Australia 2013, in Chennai.

Tendulkar (217 vs New Zealand), Sunil Gavaskar (205 vs West Indies) and Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi (203* vs England) are ahead of Kohli as of now.

And they are the only captains to hit a double ton.

The second day started with Kohli on 143, with Ravichandran Ashwin in his company.

At Lunch, the unbeaten fifth-wicket stand has yielded 168 runs in 51.4 overs with Ashwin contributing 64 runs.

India are 404/4 after 119 overs' play.
