Mangaluru (TOI): More than a dozen products like ice-creams, coffee halwa, papad, pickles, soft drinks and others, made of jack fruit and its seeds will be exhibited at the two -day 'Halasu Mela' at Pilikula Nisargadhama from July 16.
The mela is being organised to popularize jackfruit that is available in plenty in the district. Growers from the district and the state will participate in the mela and 'Jaffee', a coffee brew, made of jack fruit seeds, will be the major attraction, said deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim. He said the fair will provide a platform for farmers to have interaction with agriculture scientists and experts.
Pilikula Nisargadhama director H J Bhandary said farmer Shivanna Sakharayapatna will hold a demonstration on the technology used in making 'Jaffee' using the seeds of jack fruit. A special demonstration and training programme on grafting of saplings will be held.
Sammilan Shetty, founder of Sammilan Shetty's Butterfly Park, Belvai, will hold a photo exhibition of butterflies.Water conservation expert Padre will conduct a workshop on rain water harvesting, .
