2-day Udyog Mela opens

Mangaluru (The Hindu): A large number of job seekers thronged the two-day Udyog Mela that opened in Benjanpadavu, 20 km from Mangaluru, on Thursday.

The fair has been organised by the District Administration and the Department of Environment and Forests, with the aid of the CSR funds of companies in the region.

Around 15,000 persons from Dakshina Kannada and other parts of the State registered for the mela in which nearly 250 companies, including eight foreign ones, are participating.

In his inaugural address, H. Harish Hande, Managing Director of SELCO India Pvt. Ltd, commended the government initiative to tackle unemployment. Stating that people from the State had made a mark globally in the field of rural innovation, he called on the government to set up an International Innovation Centre, which can focus on the work done here in agriculture, water conservation and rural business models.

Commissioner for Environment and Training G. Manjunath said the current fair was the 41st in the series, and exhorted those who couldn’t make it here to register with the National Careers Services portal www.ncs.gov.in.

Minister for Environment and Forests B.Ramanath Rai said the Udyog Mela would become an annual affair.
