Mangaluru (The HIndu): Victory processions have been banned in the district

Counting of votes cast in the zilla and taluk panchayat elections on Saturday will be taken up on Tuesday and all results are expected to be out by 1 p.m., according to Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim.

Addressing media here on Sunday, Mr. Ibrahim said that the counting of votes cast in both zilla and taluk panchayat elections would be taken up in the respective taluks at 8 a.m. There would be no centralised counting of votes.

The counting of votes of Mangaluru taluk would be taken up at the Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Higher Primary School, Bondel; of Bantwal taluk at Infant Jesus English and Kannada Medium School, Modamkaup; of Belthangady taluk at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheswara Pre University College, Ujire; of Puttur taluk at Vivekananda English Medium High School, Tenkila, and of Sullia taluk at Nehru Memorial College, Sullia.

Mr. Ibrahim said that victory processions cannot be taken out in the entire district on Tuesday after the announcement of the results. Sale of liquor has been banned from 10 p.m. on Monday to midnight on Tuesday. Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar said that 27 electronic voting machines developed snag during polling on Saturday. It included snags in 16 ballot units and 11 control units. They were replaced. While counting votes, votes cast in the old and new control units would be considered.

Mr. Ibrahim said that the Election Commission would announce the results on its website as and when the counting would be over. There would be three staff members and an official reserved for announcing the results in each counting centre.
