Published On : 14 Nov 2016

Mangaluru (TOI: In wake of incidents of assault in Konaje and Ullal station limits on Thursday and Saturday, Mangaluru city police have extended prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC from 2pm on Sunday 2pm to 10pm on Wednesday (November 16). Even Dakshina Kannada police have similarly extended Section 144 till November 16.

City police commissioner M Chandra Sekhar on Sunday told reporters that three assault cases have been registered in the jurisdiction of the commissionerate. "Two teams each have been formed in Ullal and Konaje to investigate the cases. We have got definite clues and are confident that cases will be cracked at the earliest," he said.

After imposing prohibitory orders in Ullal and Konaje police station limits soon after the incident on Saturday, the city police decided to extend the same to the commissionerate limits. The top cop added that the prohibitory orders will act only as a precautionary measure - to prevent any untoward incident from taking place. Hence, no protest, procession and movement with weapons can take place. Watch will also be on spread on derogatory messages, if any, in the form of pamphlets or on social media.

The commissioner clarified that personal functions will not be affected because of these orders. This is only to prevent any activity that can lead to violence. Additional forces have been deployed in the city.

He also stressed that orders will not have an impact on the normal banking activities of the public, especially the long queues outside banks in the wake of the demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.
