Auto driver attacked by gang due to past enmity

Published On : 14 May 2018

Puttur: Umesh (30), an auto driver from Kenya in Aittoor village, was attacked by a gang on Sunday afternoon. Umesh was chased by a gang with four to five members including a woman. The gang had left him seriously injured with a sharp weapon at Nekkithadka near Mardhala.

Umesh suffered deep injuries in his back and waist. He was admitted into a private hospital in Mangaluru and his condition continues to be serious, it is gathered. Past enmity is said to be the reason for this attack.

A gang which came in a red colour Maruti Alto vehicle followed the auto rickshaw driven by Umesh and intercepted his vehicle near Bachinadi Cross, Nekkithadka. Umesh left his vehicle and began to run on the road towards Mardhala but the gang chased him and hit him with a sharp weapon near the Dargah at Nekkithadka. He fell into the roadside drain, and the attackers fled, leaving him bleeding profusely.

Umesh, who was named as an accused in a rape case which happened at Aittoor two years back, had been released on bail. Umesh had visited the house of Kiran, a relative of the complainant in the case and is said to have given death threat to family members of the lady. The mother of the victim, who already nursed hatred towards Umesh, reportedly launched murderous assault on Umesh.
