Childline rescues children from begging

Mangaluru (TNN): Childline, Mangaluru and District Child Protection Unit in a joint operation have rescued three children who were involved in begging for a living in the city on Thursday.

The officials from Childline and DCPU rescued the children aged between three and four years and migrants from other districts, who were spotted begging near the Shiradi Sai Baba temple at Chilimbi in the city with help from the locals. In order to change their mindset and wean them away from begging, the rescued children were handed over to the child welfare committee.

Childline staff Asuntha D'Souza, Ashalatha, Pavithra Jyothigudde, and DCPU child protection officer Kumar Shettigar, and staff Shivanand and Roopa were involved in the rescue operation.
