Christ University wins WGSHA Quest 2017

Manipal: Christ University, Bengaluru won the overall championship trophy and Culinary Academy of India, Hyderabad were the second best team at WGSHA Quest 2017, Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration’s annual national-level inter-collegiate hotel ability and culinary competitions held over the last two days at its campus.

The competitions showcased skills, talents, aptitude and dexterity of students from leading hotel management institutes in the country. The competitions held were, ‘Wow at every moment of truth’ (front office role play); ‘Restaurant Service Skills’ (classical fine dining service skills); ‘Floral Flourish’ (flower arrangement); ‘Culinaire’ which included ‘Entrée Gourmet Creations’, ‘Mithaas’ (Indian dessert competition), ‘Painted Platters’ (pre-plated dessert); ‘Sherlock It Out’ (treasure hunt); ‘Globe Trotter’ (documentary making); ‘Food-o-graphy’ (food photography) and ‘Jeu-Concours’ (quiz).

The results:

Wow at Every Moment of Truth

The Front Office Role Play event witnessed students acting on hotel situations given to them. Christ University, Bengaluru were the winners and Culinary Academy of India, Hyderabad were the runners-up.

Restaurant Service Skills - Christ University, Bengaluru emerged as winners and Army Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Bengaluru were the runners-up.

Floral Flourish - This year’s Flower Arrangement competition was very impressive and time was a factor in judging the competition. International Institute of Hotel Management, Bengaluru were declared the winners and Christ University, Bengaluru were the runners-up.

Entrée Gourmet Creation - In this mystery box culinary competition, the team from Christ University, Bengaluru were the winners and the contestants from Trinity Institute, Hyderabad were the runners-up.

Mithaas - In this Indian dessert competition, Army Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Bengaluru bagged the first place and International Institute of Hotel Management, Bengaluru stood second.

Painted Platters - As a part of the ‘Culinaire’ event in WGSHA Quest, ‘Painted Platters’ was an event to test the ability to make a pre-plated dessert based on the guidelines provided and also the challenge was to be creative using the ‘Mystery Box’ of ingredients provided to the teams. Christ University, Bengaluru were the winners in this too and Culinary Academy of India, Hyderabad stood runners-up.

Sherlock It Out - The treasure hunt event was very exciting as participants had to reach a target point by solving clues given to them. The winners were Army Institute of Hotel Management, Bengaluru and Christ University, Bengaluru stood runners-up in the event.

Globe Trotter (Film Your Moment) - The two phased event included a pre-shot video on travel and tourism and a surprise round in which participants were allotted a common spot in Manipal to shoot and promote local tourism. This tested the contestants’ innovation and creativity in the art of film making and also on how to promote travel and tourism. Culinary Academy of India, Hyderabad were the winners and Christ University, Bengaluru were the runners-up.

Food-o-graphy - This unique event tested the contestants’ creativity in food photography. International Institute of Hotel Management, Bengaluru and Culinary Academy of India, Hyderabad were the winners and runners-up respectively.

Jeu-concours - The hospitality quiz competition was won by Pinnacle Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Hyderabad and IIHM, Hyderabad runners-up.

Hotelier’s Got Talent - The participants presented theme-based talent competitions in which they enacted on Parivartan – Transforming India, Amar Jawan – Tribute to Indian Soldiers, and Incredible India. Moti Mahal College of Hotel Management, Mangalore were the winners and Culinary Academy of India, Hyderabad were the runners-up.
