Evelyn D'Silva to receive 'Karavali Konkans Kala Prashasti'

Mangaluru (TOI): Karavali Konkans has selected actress Evelyn Marie D'Silva for Karavali Konkans Kala Prashasti. She is the fifth recipient of the award. The award will be presented on January 9.

Karavali Konkans, an association for promotion of art and culture, was established in the year 1994, especially with the motto to encourage Konkani art and artists. Since then, every year without fail, Karavali Konkans has been presenting musical shows, staging Konkani plays, bringing out Musical albums and organizing literary events consistently.

Leslie Rego, president of Karavali Konkan addressing mediapersons on Wednesday said since the year 2011, an award titled 'Karavali Konkans Kala Prashasti' is being conferred as a life time achievement award on senior Konkani dramatists who have served the Konkani stage for decades. Till date, noted dramatists such as J B D'Souza, Benna Ruzai, Charles Sequeira and Dolla Mangalore have been the recipients of the annual award. The award carries a Shawl, Citation, Memento and a cash prize of Rs 50000.

Rev Fr Prashanth Madtha, a well-known columnist and director of Fathima Retreat House, Jeppu, Mangaluru will present award. Rev Fr Antony Serrao, Parish Priest, St Sebastian Church, Bendur, will be the guest of honor for the event.

Evelyn Marie D'Silva is a teacher of repute having served at Rosario Primary School for two years and St Aloysius Primary School for seventeen Years. Very many of the present generation of dramatists and singers who have made a name for themselves, are on her long list of students, she having played a defining role during their formative days. She has acted in numerous Konkani plays.

She has bagged several prizes and honors for her acting prowess, notably among them being the Best Actress Award for the popular drama 'Moushi '. Both Konkani Natak Sabha and Kala Sampath have honored her especially for her service in the Konkani dramatics field.
