Kannur (TOI): The LDF would boycott all the programmes of chief minister Oommen Chandy in the district, scheduled for February 29, alleging corruption by the ministers and also blaming the UDF government of trying to take credit of the projects launched by the previous LDF government by inaugurating them now in an incomplete condition.

The chief minister would be attending eight programmes in the district, including the trial landing at Kannur airport. Excise minister K Babu, against whom large-scale allegations of corruption are raised, is also attending many programs along with the chief minister and protest would be raised against him too, said LDF convenor K P Sahadevan, addressing a press conference here on Friday.

The LDF is planning to organize protest meets in all the venues raising slogans and wearing black badges.

Moreover, the inaugural prorammes are mere election stunt, as some of the projects are incomplete while others have been inaugurated earlier as well, said the LDF leaders.

"It was during the tenure of the LDF government that the land acquisition began for the airport and it had envisaged a runway of 4000 metres, but now the UDF has reduced the runway length and it is planning a hurried trial landing without even installing the signal system," said CPM leader M V Jayarajan.

Similarly the handloom village was inaugurated last year and it has not benefitted the weavers in any manner, alleged the LDF, adding that the plan to inaugurate it once again is an act of mockery.

Likewise, the dredger at Azhikkal port was brought nearly a year back and now inaugurating it along with the foundation-stone laying ceremony of the staff quarters is a farce, alleged the LDF.

Similarly, though the science block in the Krishna Menon Memorial Women's College had become functional six months back, there is no meaning in organizing an inaugural function now, alleged the LDF, saying that the agitation is not against development but against corruption.
