Bengaluru: Kanara Entrepreneurs (KE Global) participated in the UGC sponsored national level seminar on 'Financing micro, small and medium enterprises- issues and challenges' organized by the department of economics, St Joseph's College (Autonomous) on September 14 and 15.
The seminar was inaugurated by Suresh Savekar, general manager, State Bank of Mysore, Bengaluru and presided over by Fr Dr Victor Lobo principal of St Joseph College.
Fr Victor Lobo said the need to realize that entrepreneurs and their small enterprises are responsible for almost all the economic growth of developed economies. We should change the current economic system dominated by big business groups to one where small and medium-sized enterprises develop together.
He said that he is happy that the department of economics with its organizing team led by prof Clement D'Souza and Keshav Murthy is organizing this event.
The director marketing of Kanara Entrepreneurs - Claudius Pereira spoke on the topic - Managing and Governing a Business in MSME! He narrated the challenges faced by entrepreneurs in this segment and also stressed on creating methods of teaching, more learner centered. He narrated several experiences that he had encountered in his 33 years career, which has been inspirational and thought provoking. He provided participants with an actual understanding and an insight on running, setting–up and scaling the business in MSME despite the challenges prevailing in India today. The experiences he narrated were the actual challenges faced in industry today and were an eye opener for the teaching fraternity as stated by the chairperson Dr Robert Clive, head department of social science, Cross Land College, Brahamavar in his closing remarks.
The talk was interactive and entertaining, Claudius kept the audience on the edge of their seats. The participants - students and faculty members were represented from various colleges in India. He said businesses do not fail, people do! He gave the audience an insight on how to set up governance in MSME, the role of Board of Directors (BOD), what constitutes a Smart BOD and the challenges in today’s MSME's.
He explained why governance is required, the best practices, the norms etc. He also gave the participants an insight on employers views of today’s graduates and tips on and how today’s education has to adapt quicker to industry demands in order to stay relevant!
He concluded by saying that entrepreneurs have to understand the unique challenges arising from management and said - fairness and transparency are non-negotiable in business.
After the talk, there was a brief interaction with the audience and the management. Fr Dr Victor Lobo, principal expressed the desire to collaborate with KE Global for mutual benefit.
