Local protest against cops for allegedly thrash cattle transporter

Bhatkal: Hundreds of locals gathered outside Bhatkal police station on the night of Wednesday September 30 after cops allegedly assaulted cattle transporter Mohammed Rayyan (22).

Mohammed Rayyan was allegedly assaulted by the police, after he refused to pay a bribe. It is alleged that a few days ago, Rayyan was called to the police station in Bhatkal where the sub-inspector demanded a bribe from him and threatened to file false cases against him if he did not pay up.

Angry locals along with leaders of Majlis-e-Islah-o-Tanzeem gheraoed the Bhatkal police station and demanded action against the inspector. The SI denied the allegations of assault.

The people took Rayyan to a hospital in Kundapur and later shifted him to another hospital in Mangaluru.
