MIT students dies in suicide bid

Manipal (TOI): A BTech engineering student of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) who attempted at suicide by hanging at his hostel room on Saturday night died on Sunday.

Police said the body of the student, Aditya Ishaan, 18, who was staying in Room No. 2, Block IX, tried to commit suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan hook using his belt at 11.45pm. The hostel care taker and students immediately got him down from the hanging position and admitted him to the hospital. But the victim did not respond to treatment and died at 1.30am on Sunday.

Police said the victim, hailing from Jharkhand, had gone out for dinner along with his friends at 9pm and had come back to the room at 9.45pm. His roommate has also gone out for dinner with others and when he came back at 11.15pm, found the door was latched from inside. After no response from Aditya even after a 15 minute knocking and banging on the door, the panic stricken roommate's friends forcibly pushed the door to open and found Aditya hanging from the ceiling fan hook.

The post-mortem will be conducted after his parents arrive from Jharkhand.

The case has been registered at Manipal police station.
