MLC elections: 99.59% polling in DK-Udupi local body

Mangaluru (TOI): Election to Legislative Council from Dakshina Kannada-Udupi Local Authority Constituency was held peacefully without any violence being reported.

While the election held from 8am to 4pm, 99.59% voters exercised their franchise at 410 polling booths spread across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts of the Constituency. Out of 6,560 voters in Dakshina Kannada - Udupi Local Authority Constituency, 6,533 exercised their franchise in the election. There are eight candidates including K Prathapchandra Shetty (Congress), Kota Shrinivasa Poojary (BJP), S Prakash Shetty, Praveenchandra Jain (JDS), Alphons Pranco, Ismail Doddamane, K Jayaprakash Hegde and K Harikrishna Bantwal (independent). Voters will have to elect two candidates in the twin constituency by marking their preferential votes in the ballot paper.

Most of the polling stations recorded 100% polling in MLC election by 2pm. Elected members of gram panchayats, taluk panchayats, town municipality, town panchayat, city municipality, Mangaluru City Corporation, MLAs, MLCs and MP are the voters, who will have to elect two MLCs from the twin constituency. While there are 3,190 male voters in the constituency, 3,177 exercised their franchise. Meanwhile, out of 3,370 female voters, 3,356 cast their votes.

Puttur and Sullia taluks recorded 100% polling. In Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), all the 64 voters exercised their franchise before 1pm. In MCC, 60 corporators, 2 MLAs, MP and a MLC are voters.
