Udupi (The Hindu): The police on Tuesday arrested a man on the charges of robbery, criminal intimidation and attempt to murder three of his relatives near Kundapur.

According to the district police, Ranjit Shetty (26) went to his relative’s house at Korgi village between 1.30 a.m. and 2 a.m. on Tuesday and demanded money as he was in need of it. When the relatives refused to pay, he got enraged and assaulted three persons — Chandramati Shedti, Kushtappa Shetty and Korgamma Shedti — with a knife and forcibly took away gold jewellery estimated to be worth about Rs. 4 lakh, a mobile telephone and Rs. 1,000 in cash.

He then locked them up and escaped. The occupants of the house then raised an alarm and contacted the police. The three injured persons were shifted to a hospital at Kundapur for treatment.
