Mangaluru (TOI): Two students from the city have been selected for the semi-finals of the Pearson Quiz Champ 2015 to be held in Bengaluru. The winners will have an opportunity to visit Nasa's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The national-level quiz is conducted by Pearson and Manipal Group. The semi-final and final rounds will have top schools competing for the prize in Bengaluru on December 12.

Praneetha Kalbavi and Pannaga Bhat of Sharada Vidyalaya School have been selected from Mangaluru and they will compete with 11 schools from various states. "It's an exciting chance for students to showcase their talent on a national platform," said Anuradha Shivaram, principal, Manipal School. In the prelims, seven schools from Mangaluru took part and eight teams were selected and Sharada Vidyala School won the finals, she added.

Vinay Kumar, senior manager, marketing, Pearson Schools, said the visit to Kennedy Space Center will include exploring the space shuttle Atlantis, the Apollo/Saturn V Centre and meeting with a veteran Nasa astronaut. "This will be a week-long trip and all expenses will be paid by the school. It's an exciting learning opportunity to explore the world's premier space station," he said.

The final round will have the semi-finals and a final and two teams will be selected for it. Vinay said winners will be taken to Florida in October 2016. Praneetha Kalbavi, a class 6 student, told TOI she and her father Praveen Kalbavi, are spending time on the internet after school and also browsing through newspapers and journals to gather information on current affairs and general knowledge.
