Minimum auto fare increased to Rs 25 in Mangaluru

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, A B Ibrahim, who also happens to be the chairman of regional transport authority, has passed orders enhancing minimum auto rickshaw fare in the city to Rs 25. This revision has taken effect from January 15.

The order passed in this connection states that the fare has been revised taking into account escalation in costs of fuel, spare parts, insurance etc and also in view of the prevailing prices of essential commodities in detail. However, the revision is subject to certain conditions.

Minimum fare for the first 1.5 km has been fixed at Rs 25 for a maximum of three passengers. For every km thereafter, meter fare would be Rs 13. Waiting charge for first 15 minute would be free, while for the next 45 minutes, 25 percent of the fare will have to be paid. Luggage charges would be free for the first 20 kg, whereas two rupees per kg for every additional 20 kg will have to be paid. For the period between 10 pm and 5 am, auto rickshaws can charge one and half times the fare calculated as above.

Driving licence details of the auto rickshaw driver with his photograph should be displayed behind the driver's seat in way that it is clearly visible to passengers. Auto rickshaws having licence to operate within the city can charge 1.5 times the above fare after crossing the city limits, the order mentions

In case of public complaints, the same may be filed either by calling toll free number 1077 or sending SMS to 9481802019. It is mandatory for all the auto rickshaws moving in the district to fix fare meter or digital fare meter. These meters should be got modified to display the new rates within 60 days.
