No brand makeover for Bengaluru: Karnataka CM

Published On : 25 Apr 2015

Mangaluru (TNN): Bengaluru will not get a brand makeover any soon. It will continue to leverage its current position as the Silicon Valley of India, a nickname it derived because of its unrivalled status as a hub for information technology companies.

Confirming this, Siddaramaiah told TOI that there has been no thought given to rebranding of the state's capital. ``It will continue with its current branding,'' said the CM.

The chief minister was on a tour of the district on Friday. Regarding the HC order on BBMP polls the CM said that he has not seen the order. ``I will only be able to comment about it when I know what exactly it says,'' he said.

He also nixed the idea of appointing a minister to oversee the functioning of BBMP in the interim. ``There's a commissioner and an administrator. What else do you need? They will monitor the integrated development of BBMP and progress of its works,'' he said.

Whether they would be able to handle this huge task? ``Don't worry, Ramalinga Reddy (transport minister) will take care of the task in times of emergency,'' answered the CM.

Reddy has also been vociferously defending trifurcation of BBMP to ensure better administration.

On the three infrastructure issues that will be taken care of in near future, the CM said top priority will be given to roads, followed by footpaths, garbage clearance and drainage issues.

The CM visited Manjanady Al-Madeena Yateemkhana, St Joseph Vaz Shrine in Mudipu, Sri Rajarajeshwari Temple in Kuttar and participated in the inauguration of the new building of Hira Women's Composite Pre-University College. Later, he laid the foundation stone for the new office building of Dakshina Kannada district Congress committee in Mallikatte and addressed party workers.

He then took part in the Uroos programme at Sayyed Madani Darga, Ullal and left for Bengaluru late on Friday night.
