Mangaluru (TOI): With countdown well and truly underway for Pope Francis to declare Mother Teresa a Saint of the Catholic Church in Rome on September 4, St Aloysius College (SAC), run by Jesuit Fathers, has arranged its own series of programmes on Saturday to mark the occasion. Rev Fr Swebert D'Silva, principal, SAC said Mother Teresa worked for the poor, destitute and the dying, first in Kolkata and then throughout the world.

Mother Teresa is considered as the 'Saint of the Gutters'. Now with the Pope conferring sainthood, Mother Teresa will be elevated from the 'gutter to the altar'. To mark this happy occasion, the college has organized a short programme at the Katte Stage. Mother Teresa's Sisters (Missionaries of Charity) will be present where a garden and an auditorium of the College will be named after her. A statue will be erected, the principal said.

Contributions and donations will be collected to help her works. A short skit will be presented depicting her life. Important personalities will deliver messages on her life and works.
